Private-preview draft

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 31 October 2026

This is a preview draft for owner and legal review before production launch. It has not been reviewed or approved by a lawyer.

This policy explains what MarketUni collects, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. MarketUni is a campus marketplace that connects verified student sellers with buyers at their institution. We handle your information in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and the NDPR.

1. Who we are

MarketUni (“we”, “us”) operates the marketplace at market-uni.com and seller.market-uni.com. For privacy questions, contact us at privacy@market-uni.com.

2. Information we collect

Account details. Your name, username, email address, a securely hashed password, your institution and campus affiliation.

Identity verification (sellers). Sellers verify with their National Identification Number (NIN). We check the NIN instantly through our identity provider and keep only the verified name it returns, a one-way keyed hash of the number, and the last three digits. We never store your full NIN. Buyers are not asked to verify.

Payout details (sellers). Your bank and account number, confirmed with your bank so payouts reach an account in your own name.

Marketplace activity. Listings, orders, reviews, disputes, and messages you send to other members. Contact details inside messages are hidden to keep transactions on the platform.

Payment information. Payments are processed by our payment providers. We receive confirmation and references, not your full card details.

Technical data. Basic log and device information (such as IP address and session activity) needed to run the service securely and prevent fraud.

3. How we use your information

To create and secure your account; to verify sellers and confirm payout accounts; to take payment, hold it in protection, and pay sellers once an order completes; to run orders, reviews, disputes and messaging; to keep the marketplace safe (fraud prevention, moderation, and enforcing our rules); and to meet legal and record-keeping obligations.

4. Who we share it with

We share only what each provider needs to do its job:

  • Identity verification — your NIN and name are checked with our KYC provider (QoreID).
  • Payments and payouts — handled by our licensed payment partners (such as BACHS, Paystack or Flutterwave).
  • Email delivery — verification codes and notifications are sent through our email provider.
  • Campus moderators — institution moderators can review verification and reports for their own campus, through access-controlled tools.

We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

5. How we protect it

Connections are encrypted in transit. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes, and your NIN is stored only as a keyed hash plus its last three digits — never in full. Identity documents and selfies, where submitted, are kept outside the public web area and reachable only through authorization-checked review paths. Access to personal data is limited to what each role needs.

6. How long we keep it

We keep account and transaction records for as long as your account is active and as long as we need them for the order protection, dispute, financial and legal reasons above. Verification and payment records are retained for audit and reconciliation even after a subscription or listing ends.

7. Your rights

You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or request deletion of your account. You can update your name, email and password in Settings; the name on a verified seller account is set from your NIN check. To exercise any right, email privacy@market-uni.com. Some records may be kept where the law requires.

8. Children

MarketUni is for members of tertiary institutions and is not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone who is not eligible to use a campus marketplace.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service changes. The “last updated” date above shows the current version, and significant changes will be notified in the app.
