Stay safe on MarketUni

Most campus scams work in the same few ways. Here is what they look like and what to do instead.

Never share an OTP or your password

MarketUni sends codes to you. We never ask you to read one back — not by call, not by WhatsApp, not by DM. Anyone who asks is trying to take your account.

Keep payment on MarketUni

If a seller asks you to send money to a personal account "to save fees", you lose every protection: no payment record, no refund, nothing a moderator can act on. Paying through MarketUni means the seller is only paid after the order completes, and the commission comes out of their side anyway.

Meet in a public campus place

Main gate, faculty foyer, hall common room, in daylight. Take someone with you if the item is expensive. Never a private room off campus.

Check verification before you pay

Open the seller's trust panel. Look at completed orders and how long they have been here, not just the badge.

Inspect before you confirm

Confirming an order releases the money and cannot be undone. Power the laptop on. Check the size. Count the items.

Report early, not after

A report on your campus goes to your own institution's moderator. Three upheld reports flags an account automatically.

Fees and payouts

MarketUni takes 5% of the item price from the seller's payout. Buyers pay the listed price and no fee is added at checkout. You pay MarketUni at checkout; the sale lands in the seller's pending balance and becomes available to them, minus the commission, once the order completes.

In this build, payments run through a mock provider. No money moves. The provider layer supports Paystack Test Mode — card or bank, Flutterwave and is selected by configuration, not by code.

Reporting

Every listing and every seller profile has a Report action. Reports go to the moderators of the institution that owns the listing. Your name is never shown to the person you reported.

Being pressured right now? Stop the conversation, do not send money, and report it. A moderator on your campus sees reports within hours.
